SMOKING ASHTRAY. Anthropomorphic ashtray representing a caricatured head of the singer of "BARBER SHOP QUARTET". Polychrome porcelain. Japanese production of the years 1945/50. Part of a set of 4, of which it is a variant with 4 pairs of eyes! The base does not have a song title but the inscription: Wanna see smoke come out of my ears? The BARBER. SHOP QUARTET was born at the beginning of 1900 in American hairdressing salons, where customers used to sing "a capella" while waiting for their turn. This kind gave rise to contests and festivals, and is still in vogue today in the United States. In France the genre was represented by the "Frères Jacques" Height: 14.2 cm. Under the base it bears a label of importer VICTORIA. Smoke escapes through the ears.
