Workshop of Girolamo CAMPAGNA (1550-1625). "Venus". Bronze, - Lot 11
Workshop of Girolamo CAMPAGNA (1550-1625). "Venus". Bronze, brown patina, Venice, 4th quarter of the 16th century. On an old round base in patinated wood. Height 38 cm without the base. This Venetian bronze represents Venus standing naked, her head bent to the right, her hair skilfully tied up with a ribbon, her right hand hiding her right breast, in a contrapposto of rare elegance. It is quite comparable to the Venus Marina from the same workshop. Girolamo Campagna belongs to the generation that embodied the height of Venetian mannerism. His elegant and luminous manner expresses strength, freedom, power and grace. His purely Venetian style already announces the beginnings of the Baroque. Literature: a.o.
