KINGDOM OF SPAIN of the XVIth. Saint Catherine. Fort-relief - Lot 24
KINGDOM OF SPAIN of the XVIth. Saint Catherine. Fort-relief in polychromed and gilded wood (missing right hand, holes from insects flying in, worms, gaps in the gilding). H.93. This beautiful St. Catherine, with a book in her left hand and her foot treading on the head of the Emperor Maximin, is shown glorious and victorious. To her left, a jagged and broken wheel symbolizes the torture that the pagan emperor is inflicting on her. At the conjunction of Italian style and Spanish techniques, our work is a testimony of the circulation of people and know-how in the Mediterranean sphere in the 16th century. Expert : LACROIX & JEANNEST.
