Monumental CHRIST in wood. Modern cross. (Accident to the fi - Lot 57
Monumental CHRIST in wood. Modern cross. (Accident to the fingers). Italy end of the 16th or beginning of the 17th century. H.88 L.78. This impressive Corpus Christi in wood is in a remarkable state of preservation. The head bent over his chest, resigned, Christ is wearing the crown of thorns. His abdomen is bruised by the wound inflicted by the spear of the centurion Longinus. The structural rigor of the body of Jesus, with its soft and sensual model enhanced by a fine layer of polychromy, its perizonium tied in a fan shape, as well as its face with vigorous features framed by supple locks and adorned with a bifid twisted beard, place our Corpus in the tradition of Italian works of the late renaissance, which extended its production until the first decades of the 17th century.
