Provenance : In the family of the portraiture and by descent to the present owner. Exhibition : Probably Lille, Salon de l'Académie des Arts 1774, number 29. - Marly-le-Roi - Louveciennes, Musée des Beaux Arts " L'enfant chéri au siècle des Lumières " in 2012 number 8. Literature: This family portrait, completed in 1774, is a bold and exceptional work in the production of the German-born painter Johann Julius Heinsius, who is best known for his bust portraits. In this large painting, he offers us a touching and intimate image, close to the family portraits done by Nicolas Bernard LEPICIÉ or Elisabeth VIGÉE LE BRUN. The scene evokes the reunion of Monsieur de CAMBRONNE with his wife, his four children, his brother and his sister-in-law, at the end of a stay at the NANCY garrison. An inscription on the frame dated from the 19th century identifies each of the models.
