Man of letters and bibliophile (1851-1931). A free-spirited, independent, bachelor dandy, Uzanne produced a substantial and esteemed body of work, which was shaped by his love of books, women and art. He was constantly the real publisher, sometimes hidden behind the bibliophile societies he created. After a pronounced taste for 18th-century galant literature, he quickly opened up to modernity under the influence of Félicien Rops, producing some of the finest illustrated books of the "Art Nouveau" period.
