BELT BUCKLE decorated with a dragon in finely chased bronze - Lot 407
BELT BUCKLE decorated with a dragon in finely chased bronze and gilded with fine gold (mercury gilding). The reverse is finely engraved with foliage, and the inside of the buckle is inscribed with Chinese characters meaning "happiness and prosperity". This auspicious motif reinforces the imperial and protective symbolism of the dragon. China, late Qing dynasty Circa 1880. 3x6.5cm. Participated in numerous exhibitions with catalog reproductions (available). Objects, for the most part "literati", from the former Yelena X... collection, resident in Hong Kong before the Second World War.
