DOUBLE-HEADED LAUGHING ONI. (No theater comic demon) with an expressive, benevolent rictus. Wood inlaid with two glass eyes. Japan, Meiji period (circa 1880) or Japanese-inspired China. Dim: 6/3,5cm height 3 cm. The back is not pierced with himotoshi, indicating that this is not a utilitarian netsuke, but rather a votive piece, sometimes called a miniature Okimono. Very good condition. Objects, for the most part "literati", from the former Yelena X... collection, resident in Hong Kong before the Second World War.
