Jacques Accarias de Serionne, La Richesse de la Hollande (The Wealth of Holland), a work in which the origins of the Trade & Power of the Dutch are explained; the successive increase in their Trade & Navigation; the causes that contributed to their progress, those that tend to destroy them; & the means that can be used to overcome them. In London, at the expense of the Company, 1778. 2 vols. in-8 of XXII-518-(2) pp. and VI-516 pp., Havana calf, spine decorated with nerves, title and tomaison parts in beige and green morocco (binding of the period). First edition in-8 published in the year of the original in-4. According to Quérard (I, 5), this work is attributed to Accarias de Serionne in company with Elie Luzac. It deals with economic and historical considerations on Dutch resources. It is by successively examining the sources and the modifications due to the centuries, of physical, moral (i.e. political, fiscal and legal), and external (i.e. progress in agriculture, trade and navigation) causes that the author concludes to the decadence of this trade. The revocation of the Edict of Nantes would have brought many French families to Holland and would have been a factor in its demographic expansion.
