Louis-Paul Abeille & Jean-Gabriel Montaudoin de la Touche, C - Lot 122
Louis-Paul Abeille & Jean-Gabriel Montaudoin de la Touche, Corps d'observations de la Société d'agriculture, de Commerce et des Arts, established by the States of Brittany. Years 1757 and 1758. Years 1759 and 1760. In Rennes and Paris, by Jacques Vatar and the Widow of B. Brunet, 1760-1762. 2 vol. in-8 XXXVIII-284-(8) pp. ; VIII-392-(8) pp., speckled brown half-basane, spine with decorated nerves (binding of the period). First edition. Reports established by Louis-Paul Abeille, general inspector of the manufactures, a convinced physiocrat and J.-G. Montaudoin, lawyer in Nantes. The Société d'Agriculture, de Commerce et des Arts de Bretagne, the first society of its kind in France, was strongly influenced by the ideas of the physiocratic economist J-C. M. Vincent Gournay; its members had the task of drawing up an inventory of agriculture, commerce and industry in the States of Brittany, and undertook to make the results of their work public. These four years were the only ones published. The work is largely technical, but it already reflects Abeille's demographic and economic concerns, in particular the need for freedom in the grain trade. A frontispiece and three plates engraved by C. Baquoy, figure engraved in the title of the second volume. Nice copy. INED, 1-2 and 3243-44; Einaudi, 48-49.
