Louis-Joseph Plumard de Dangeul, Remarks on the Advantages a - Lot 175
Louis-Joseph Plumard de Dangeul, Remarks on the Advantages and Disadvantages of France and Great Britain, in relation to Trade, & other Sources of State Power. Translation from the English of Knight John Nickolls. Third edition. Printed in Leiden and is in Paris, at the Frères Estienne, 1754. In-12 of VI-(8)-411 pp., marbled Havana calf, smooth spine decorated, brown morocco titleplate, red edges (contemporary binding). This particularly rich work of documentation, accompanied by personal observations on population, social classes, trade and economy, passed for a translation of an English book by John Nickolls. Plumard de Dangeul (1722-1777), a relative of Forbonnais and a French civil servant, who preferred to write under a pseudonym, studied Spanish mercantilism (in 1753 he translated a work by Bernard de Ulloa) and, on the advice of Vincent de Gournay, the works of Josiah Tucker, from which he adopted many points of view. Nice copy. Kress, 5380; INED, 3607.
