François Vidal, De la Répartition des richesses, ou de la ju - Lot 185
François Vidal, De la Répartition des richesses, ou de la justice distributive en économie sociale. Book containing: a critical examination of the theories put forward either by economists or socialists. Paris, Capelle, 1846. In-8 of (4)-500 pp., half red grief, spine to nerves, cover preserved. (Bookbinding of the time). First edition. First a Saint-Simonian, then an orthodox disciple of Fourier, François Vidal advocates in this work the organization of consumer cooperatives which would ensure the sale of the products of production cooperatives and transform capitalist industry into a cooperative state industry. "I will not finish doing Mr. Vidal the justice he is due. Although he espoused the theories of the socialists, he did not borrow their style. Mr. Vidal gives us the grace of Fourierist vocabulary, and scales and pivots, and friendships in superfluous fifths, and loves in diminished thirds. If he sees science in a different light than his predecessors, he at least takes it seriously. He does not despise his public to the point of wanting to impose it with apocalyptic phrases" (F. Bastiat, Journal des Économistes). Nice copy. Del Bo, 69; Goldsmiths, 34912.
