Mathieu François Maxence Audouard, Historical and Medical Relation of the Yellow Fever that reigned in Barcelona in 1821. Paris, Moreau Imprimeur, 1822. In-8 of LVIII-480 pp., blond half-basane with small corners, smooth spine decorated (binding of the time). First edition. Main army doctor, Audouard, born in Castres in 1776, was sent in 1797 to the army of the Pyrénées-Orientales as a pharmacist, a state which his father practised in his native town. Three years later he went to study medicine in Montpellier where he was received as a doctor and spent several more years studying; he returned to the army in 1805 as an ordinary doctor in the Italian army, and was then successively appointed chief doctor of the military hospitals of Lodi, Istria, Venice and Rome. In 1808 he transferred to the Spanish army and followed the army's movements from the Elbe to Fontainebleau. Put on the reform, Audouard returned to service within a hundred days. It was only in 1819 that he was recalled to the service and appointed chief doctor of the hospital in Calais. On his arrival in Paris in 1814, Dr. Audouard was appointed a member of the Medical Society. In 1821, he was sent by the Minister of War to Barcelona to observe yellow fever. On his return to Paris, he tirelessly took care of the results of his mission, and before the end of the same year, he published them in the Historical and Medical Reiation of Yellow Fever in Barcelona.
