François Georges Bievre, Marquis de Vercingetorixe, Tragedy, - Lot 400
François Georges Bievre, Marquis de Vercingetorixe, Tragedy, posthumous work of Sieur de Bois-Flotté, Student in Law-Wire: followed by historical notes of the author. No place, 1770. In-8 of 56 pp., half blue cloth, preserved mute cover (19th century binding). First edition. Frontispiece. Georges Mareschal, Marquis de Bièvre (1747-1789), accomplished courtier, famous for his immoderate taste for puns - he is the editor of the article kalembour in the Encyclopedia - was the great-grandson of the surgeon of Louis XIV. He composed several plays. His affair with the actress Raucourt made him the lawyer for the actors in the quarrel that, in 1777, the playwrights defended by Beaumarchais. He published extensively in the Almanach des Muses.
