Pierre Dupuy , History of the condemnation of the Templars, - Lot 455
Pierre Dupuy , History of the condemnation of the Templars, that of the Schism of the Popes at the Siege in Avignon and some criminal trials. Brussels, François Foppens, 1713. 2 vol. in-12 of portrait, (14)-322 pp. ; (2)-322 pp., brown calf, spine decorated with nerves, red edges (binding of the period). Édition étabie by Jean Godefroy, the first under this title, increased with the History of the Knights Templar by Nicolaus Gürtler. Pierre Dupuy (1582-1651), historiographer adviser and keeper of the King's library, who was commissioned by Louis XIII to draw up an inventory of the Royal Library, discovered many documents relating to the order, doctrine and condemnation of the Knights Templar which he published on his own initiative, thus revealing their secret doctrine. In 1654, the Traittez concernant l'Histoire de France Sçavoir la Condamnation des Templiers (Treatises on the History of France - Knowing the Condemnation of the Knights Templar) appeared, followed by two editions in the 17th century (1685 and 1700). "In spite of its bias, this history is interesting for the texts found in it" (Saffroy). Portrait of Pierre Dupuy in frontispiece, engraved by Harrewyn. The same portrait is missing from volume II. Worn head caps and corners, a few scorched leaves, bound without the two tomaison pieces. Brunet, II, 902; Saffroy, I, 6483; Dessubré, 322; Caillet, I, 3427; Fesch, 514.
