BUDDHA in dry lacquer gold, glassware. Burma, Mandalay style - Lot 277
BUDDHA in dry lacquer gold, glassware. Burma, Mandalay style, XVIII-XIXth. It is in a witness grounding position. The technique used is that of dry lacquer, or hollow lacquer called man-yun. The lacquer was placed on a clay sculpture; once the lacquer paste was perfectly dry, the clay figure was removed by hollowing it out. Then layers of lacquer and gold leaf were applied. This technique was very widespread in Burma from the 18th century because it made it possible to easily transport these very light statues. 70x33.
