Attributed to Pierre GOLE. (1620-1684). EXCEPTIONAL LOUIS XIV COFFRET with curved lid in red tortoiseshell and ivory veneer and bronze trim. It is decorated with stylized fauns positioned in the middle of foliage, winged chimeras framing a heart motif and birds with wings spread. The bronze trim on each spandrel on the bottom and on the top represents chubby lovers in the middle of roses and garlands of leaves and flowers. The back is decorated with a fleur de lys topped by a crown framed by two disheveled fauns supporting the crown. The interior reveals a painted scene of brigandage (with some wear). It is in very good condition, without lack of marquetry and all its bronzes. Ep.end XVIIè. L.35 P.23 H.16. Literature : this very exceptional box is probably of Royal origin in view of the fleur de lys surmounted by the crown.
