PICASSO Pablo (1881-1973). "Bullfighting". Large glazed eart - Lot 279
PICASSO Pablo (1881-1973). "Bullfighting". Large glazed earthenware dish. 1953. Hollow mark on the back "Madoura full fire" and "Original imprint of Picasso". Perfect condition. Diameter 43,5cm. This large dish of Picasso that we present takes up one of the artist's main themes, the bullfight. Dated 1953, it is part of an important period of Picasso's ceramic work. Each of the 200 copies - a rather small number compared to other models - printed by the Madoura workshops differs. Our copy is distinguished by its exceptional diameter of 43.5 larger than that of the other prints. It is also rare for its relief, its shaded brown enamel highlighted with greens that create the thickness of the pattern, emphasizes the movement and speed and reflects the violence of the bullfighting motif. Our dish was acquired by the parents of the current owner directly from the MADOURA workshops. Bibliography: Alain RAMIE. "Catalog of the ceramic work 1947-1971". Reproduced p.98 under the number 181. Georges BLOCH, "Catalogue de l'œuvre gravée et céramique, Tome II" reproduced p.47 under number 41.
