HIQUILY Philippe (1925-2013). ROCKING'CHAIR. Brass and steel - Lot 415
HIQUILY Philippe (1925-2013). ROCKING'CHAIR. Brass and steel. Unique piece, signed. H.35 L.41 P.18. This work has been authenticated by the Comité HIQUILY. A certificate of authenticity can be obtained from the Comité at the purchaser's request and expense. Literature: The female figure is the central theme of Philippe HIQUILY's work. The artist draws on the arts of millennia-old civilizations to represent her. He draws as much inspiration from the idols of the Cycladic islands in Greece as from the female figures of African art. These multiple influences lead him to imagine hieratic figures with insect-like mandibles and tiny heads, contrasting with a large body whose attributes are exaggerated. This refers to the ancestral custom of personifying fertility, setting up these figures as divinities, described by some as Mother Goddesses.
