LOUIS XIV APPARAT CONSOLE in richly carved gilded oak. It st - Lot 201
LOUIS XIV APPARAT CONSOLE in richly carved gilded oak. It stands on 4 bracket feet with chimera heads on foliate scrolls. The finely openwork belt features a central motif of a woman's profile in a medallion, surrounded by leafy garlands, shells and interlacing. The 4 legs are joined by an X-shaped spacer with 4 winged chimeras framing a crown motif. Restored royal red Languedoc marble top. 18th c. W.179 D.76,5 H.86. Provenance: regional private collection. Literature: The ornamental grammar of this console is close to that of 2 game tables in the Galerie des Glaces at VERSAILLE with their medallions, and for the rocaille base, to the ornaments diffused by J.B.H. THURREAU dit TORO 1672-1731 such as the winged dragons. The gilding was restored in the 19th century and is in good condition. A console with a relatively similar base, decorated with a few dragons, is in the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in PARIS. Dated circa 1710-1720 by the Museum, it comes from the Château de Chenonceau (Gilles PERRAULT certificate of appraisal).
