IMPORTANT Sino-Tibetan gilt bronze Tsongkapa STATUTE, Gansu - Lot 386
IMPORTANT Sino-Tibetan gilt bronze Tsongkapa STATUTE, Gansu region. 19th century (see earlier). Seated in sattvāsana on a double lotus-shaped plinth bordered at the top and bottom by fine rows of pearls, he adopts the gesture of the dharmachakra mudrā, delicately holding the lotus stems that blossom around his shoulders. One of these stems supports the sacred book, while the other carries the sword of knowledge (parts redone but old). Draped in a finely chiselled monastic robe, made from patchwork fabrics. His peaceful, smiling face expresses profound serenity. The work is sealed. H.30 L.24 P.15.
