Wooden replacement VIRGIN, 19th century France. Southern Fra - Lot 174
Wooden replacement VIRGIN, 19th century France. Southern France. From the 16th to the 19th century, it was customary to replace the Romanesque Virgins, which enjoyed great popular fervor and most of which had disappeared or were in very poor condition, with small folk-made Virgins. Examples can still be found in Catalonia in the 1930s. H.43.
