Carved and polychrome wood figure of the infant Jesus. Sulfu - Lot 165
Carved and polychrome wood figure of the infant Jesus. Sulfured eyes. Charming figure in the round of the Infant Jesus, depicted standing nude in a blessing attitude. The face, with its fine, gentle features, is distinguished by the insertion of sulfide eyes, conferring an expressive intensity characteristic of Iberian Baroque statuary. The body, modeled with naturalism, bears witness to delicate sculpting and original polychromy. This type of representation was intended for private devotion or to adorn domestic and conventual altars, as the Child could be dressed in liturgical costumes according to the celebrations. (Some wear to the polychromy, small visible accidents). Good overall appearance. Iberian Peninsula, late 17th/early 18th century. H.43.
