BUDDHA in copper alloy with traces of gilding. Beautiful rep - Lot 367
BUDDHA in copper alloy with traces of gilding. Beautiful representation of Buddha seated in sattvaparyanka, right hand making the gesture of taking the earth as witness, bhumisparsha mudra. The particular style would suggest a Laotian or Northern Thai origin, although Laotian pieces are usually less graceful. The surface shows significant remnants of its original gilding, and a colored glass bead is inlaid at the umbilicus. Thailand or Laos Circa 16th c. H.45. From French private collection. Expert : Jean-Luc Estournel - Cabinet Daffos-Estournel
